Md Ashraf Ul Hasan

I am a Ph.D. Candidate at the Kingston Bat Conservation Ecology Lab in Texas Tech University, USA, delves into the fascinating world of bats in Bangladesh. My Ph.D. project shines a light on how bat species respond to land-use changes and their adaptability to the mosaic landscape in Bangladesh.

I have just wrapped up fieldwork for one of my research projects on bat assemblage structure and species response to land-use change in Bangladesh. The project was made possible by the funding from the Rufford Foundation, Bat Conservation International, American Society of Mammologists and Michelle C. Knapp memorial scholarship from Texas Tech. My following project is on the habitat selection by a predatory bat Lyroderma lyra in the mosaic landscape of Bangladesh. Thanks to the Grants-in-aid and the Summer Research Assistant award from the Department of Biological Sciences at Texas Tech for the financial support. Also, credit goes to Stevens lab at Natural Resource Management and the Kingston Bat Conservation Ecology Lab at Biological Sciences for the equipment support.

Apart from my fieldwork, I am interested in educating people of all ages – from kids to adults – aiming to dissipate misconceptions about bats and share insights into bat biology. I am also mentoring Bangladeshi undergraduate and graduate students in developing bat research capacity, writing research grants, assisting with manuscript writing, and guiding them in pursuing higher studies in the USA.
